I served in Vietnam from 1967-1968 as a Crypto ( fixed Ciphony) technician- MOS 32F20. I enlisted in 1966 and took basic training at Ft. Polk Louisiana. Then I spent 1 year in electronics school at Ft. Monmouth NJ where I studied solid state electronics, digital theory and then another 10 months studying the KY-3 and KG-13 crypto equipment. This equipment is generally known to the layman as a "scramble Phone". At the time all this was top secret but the photos of the equipment are posted on the web these days so I guess it's all declassified now.  Back then we had to have a Secret Clearance just to attend the school. Then I was sent to Vietnam for a year where I worked in the various comm centers and switches that handled this equipment. These locations were all over the country so I was sent TDY to various places such as: Saigon, Can Tho, Da Nang, Phu Lam, Nha Trang and a few other nameless places where I transited through as a crypto Courier. The main crypto switch was sited at Ton Son Nhut Airport where the 758 switch was sandwiched between the TSN Heliport & the Air Force MARS station. I was stationed in Saigon during the TET offensive of 1968. Our off-base barracks was not far from the Saigon Race Track.  After my year was up, I spent my third and final year in the Army at Ft. Monmouth where I was an electronics instructor in solid state theory. I turned 21 in Vietnam and left the Army as a 22 year old E-5.

I have posted some photos from this period specifically for my fellow vets who will find their way to this site. I'm sure these photos will mean a lot more to them than the casual viewer and it is for them that I post these photos.  I've posted links to some of my favorite RVN association sites in case you didn't know about them. (Just click on the patches.)

Hope you enjoy them. I look forward to hearing from any of my fellow vets who visit this site.
